Step 1: In 2020, TfL is turning 20 years old, although some of its component parts have been operating for much longer. This walk will take you through the heart of London...
Step 2: ...and take you past many sites that impact the way Londoners get around the city each day. The locations here are a part of daily life in the city, but often have a rich heritage that may not be evident from their modern day use.
Step 3: We hope this walk will give you a greater appreciation of the history behind what you may see every day. Look out for the “read more” panels on key steps of this walk in-app to read the additional historical information.
Step 4: This walk starts at St James’s Park tube station also known as 55 Broadway. It’s a grade I listed building built in between 1927 & 1929.
Step 5: The building was constructed as a new headquarters for the original Underground Electric Railways Company of London (UERL), which went on to become the London Underground.
Step 6: Exit the Queen’s Anne’s Gate entrance and cross over Petty France road at the zebra crossing.
