• Step 1: Black History Month was first launched in the UK in the 1980s to challenge racism & celebrate the incredible things the black community has contributed to British society over the years.

• Step 2: What better place to be immersed in black British culture than in Brixton, which became home to many of the Windrush Generation.

• 

  Step 3: The ship Empire Windrush brought hundreds of African-Caribbean migrants who went on to help rebuild and transform post-war Britain.

• 

  Step 4: Take a left out of Brixton tube station, then take the next left to rock on down to the famous, Electric Avenue.

• 

  Step 5: You may know this place from Eddy Grant’s 1983 hit song, which was his response to the 1981 Brixton riots.

• Step 6: The riots took place when the UK was in the midst of an economic recession and Brixton was particularly affected by unemployment, poor housing and a high crime rate.
